50 Reasons NOT to Run

Today I came across a great post outlining the many reasons why we run…and I thought ok how many of these apply and actually there wasn’t a single reason that didn’t apply to me…however there was a pretty big one that was missing for me, which was

I run to prove to others that I can

But anyway, it got me thinking…if I love running sooooo much, and have all these glorious reasons for lacing up my trainers and hitting the streets/trails/parks etc…then why the hell have I not been for a run since Saturday? Well, its easy…cos for every reason there is for going for a run, there is at least one reason not to run…so here they are

  1. I don’t run because I’m busy
  2. I don’t run because I’m lazy
  3. I don’t run because it’s raining
  4. I don’t run because it’s cold
  5. I don’t run because it’s too hot
  6. I don’t run because I don’t have childcare
  7. I don’t run because my child is poorly
  8. I don’t run because my baby needs me right now

  19. I don’t run because I have a hangover
  20. I don’t run because I have friends coming over
  21. I don’t run because there’s a great film on the TV
  22. I don’t run because I’m writing a great blog about..well about running
  23. I don’t run because my running clothes are in the wash
  24. I don’t run because I have new shoes
  25. I don’t run because its quicker to use the car
  26. I don’t run because I can’t think of a new route
  27. I don’t run because my friend just called to cancel
  28. I don’t run because I’m stuck in traffic
  29. I don’t run because its dark outside
  30. I don’t run because its daylight
  31. I don’t run because I’ve just washed and straightened my hair
  32. I don’t run because I’m wearing make up
  33. I don’t run because I’m pissed off with people laughing at me
  34. I don’t run because I’ve just noticed a hole in my leggings
  35. I don’t run because my garmin is not charged
  36. I don’t run because I hate the tunes on my playlist
  37. I don’t run because my headphone wires are tangled

  44. I don’t run because my sister has asked me to have my nephew for the weekend
  45. I don’t run because I am going out tonight
  46. I don’t run because I’ve lost my confidence
  47. I don’t run because I’m feeling sad
  48. I don’t run because something horrific has happened in the world today
  49. I don’t run because I can’t be bothered to get changed
  50. I don’t run because I might bump into someone I know

Do you know what, this list is endless…this is not even an attempt to collate my top 50 reasons, it’s literally just the ramblings of my mind when thinking about the excuses I’ve used in the past. I am sure I could come up with a few hundred more.

So whats my point?

I need to quit with the excuses and just get my arse out the door and start clocking up the miles.

For those of you who don’t already know, I have committed to something called Juneathon, whereby I am going to run every day throughout June. How many excuses will I have to fight against, how many will I hear from other participants of the challenge…how long will I last before I give up completely??

Only time will tell…my next run will be on Saturday, why Saturday? Well because it’s the 1st June, and I simply can’t be bothered to run before then. Is that OK??

Psyching myself up to get off my couch, change my clothes and run. I will be timing my 5k. But if it sucks I will do it again Friday!

As I’m reading your excuses I found myself saying “I’ve used that one, and that one, oh…and that one, that one as well…”. Good thing we have Juneathon coming up. 🙂

Why not mix up your Juneathon with other activities. in Janathon I did loads of different things – including kaoroke housework :-).

Loved this post. I have all those excuses also. Sometimes they win and sometimes I win. Today I will win. I think today is Day4 or 5 of my Juneathon, I started late. Good luck on yours.
